Dawn Breaks over Castle Rock

Have I mentioned how much I love the light that comes with Winter? In late December, I woke up early with the goal of revisiting Castle Rock for a dawn photoshoot. From the Rooftops – Winding down Washington Street

I continue to explore frames captured on New Year's day from the top of Old North Church and wanted to share this one with you today. This was taken very shortly after a landscape view that included the lighthouse. In this portrait orientation, the houses and road become the focus rather than the other's all-encompassing scene. I love how the road leads the eye past one and two hundred year old houses to Little Harbor in the distance.

Sea Smoke Envelopes Marblehead Light

I had never captured (let alone seen) sea smoke before this morning. When I saw the temp was supposed to be near zero on Sunday with negative wind chills in the morning, I decided to try my hand at capturing this phenomenon. Sunday Sunrise to Welcome in 2012

This is the first sunrise (and a Sunday sunrise to boot) of 2012 as seen from the steeple of the Old North Church. Sunrise at the Sun Circle of Bleach Bluff Park

Shortly after taking the photo of the anchor at dawn from Preston beach's Beach Bluff park, I made my way around to the sun circle in hopes of capturing the now risen sun. I was fortunate to be one of the few people out at that hour and angled the camera to include the entire structure with the sun on the edge of one of the slabs. Dawn over Preston Beach

I had another gravestone from Old Burial Hill planned for today's post but yesterday's sunrise and possible UFO sighting pre-empted it. This is the shot I was taking and during which I captured a possible UFO flying over the ocean. The Sun Rises on Cliff Street and the Harbor

A few days after shooting the houses on Cliff Street at sunset, I woke in time for a sunrise. That ended up being an incredible site to behold and was featured several months ago (link). When the sun finished its initial ascent, I drove out to see if I could capture the vibrant orange sky against the now familiar composition of the houses on Cliff Street with Abbot hall behind them. This is an almost perfect mimic of the view from sunset and shows the incredible difference morning and evening light can make.

It’s Going to be a Good Day

After the purple dawn, a deep red sky, a rising red sun, and crossing over the lighthouse, the sun finished its ascent to start a wonderful Summer day. This the last of five posts this week documenting an incredible sunrise over Marblehead harbor. This seemed a perfect way to lead up to my entry in the Marblehead Festival of the Arts as well as a showing of my photos at Lost + Found in Five Corners. Doing the Moondance

After the purple dawn, a deep red sky and a rising red sun, the sun crossed behind the lighthouse at Chandler Hovey park. It wasn't until I arrived home that I was able to make out the name of the boat in the foreground...Moondance. The irony of a boat named after the moon lined up with the rising sun is made more so by the shot I have of the Supermoon that almost exactly mirrors the sun position. The Sun Also Rises

Following the purple dawn and a deep red sky, the sun began its slow ascent just to the left of the lighthouse at Chandler Hovey park. This was shot from Hammond park and the clouds were doing a great job of magnifying this already amazing scene.
