Sky-Blue Pink

The internet is a strange and wonderful thing. I was looking for an image to share and stopped at this one of a brilliant pink and blue sky captured at dawn in mid-April. I shared two other images from this morning but, between the changing light and flexibility of composing with a zoom lens, had a number of 'keepers' from the morning. Stacked up for Sunset

On a mid-June evening, I headed to Harvard Street while chasing this sunset over Marblehead Harbor. I arrived in time to set up and decide on this composition that encompassed Abbot Hall to Grace Community Church with boats stacked up for sunset under the pink sky with golden light on the water. The focal length compressed and accentuated the feel of boats packed tightly in the harbor and captured the feel of a mid-summer evening in Marblehead.

Sunset Sky over Fort Beach

Thank goodness for good friends and last minute plans or else I would have missed the incredible sunset sky over Fort Beach that erupted last night... Pink Rainbow and the Chestnut Tree

On May 23rd, I visited Crocker Park in the hopes of finding a new composition for the chestnut tree that had reached full bloom. As luck would have it, a storm passed over the park just before sunset and led to this pink rainbow forming over Marblehead Neck. Dawns Early Light

The morning of April 24th proved to be one of the most beautiful and longest lasting dawns/sunrises I have experienced in Marblehead. The light show began at 5:30am and, within minutes, I witnessed orange, pink and purple light paints the sky and Marblehead Harbor in dawns early light. The light quickly changed and strengthened as I stood watch at the end of Ferry Lane (near the Landing). Pink Sky over Purple Waves at Devereux Beach

Today's image comes from the incredible dawn that took place on October 29 before the storm (literally) blew through town. I had started off with a tight crop of the ocean waves and wet sand reflecting the building colors in the sky. As the dawn reached its peak, it created a pink sky over purple waves washing ashore at Devereux Beach. Sunset Flight over Marblehead

What do you do when the sky explodes in color all around but you're at home without enough time to drive to a good spot? Fly 400 feet straight up and capture this incredible view over the Atlantic and Boston skyline! Top 10 of 2016 – #3 – Rainbow Lightning at Preston Beach

In any other year, I have to believe that rainbow lighting (you can make out the lightning bolt crossing in front of the rainbow) on a pink sky at Preston Beach would have taken the #1 spot. Abbot and the Rooftops at Dawn

Today's image of Abbot and the rooftops was taken exactly one minute before yesterday's view of Grace Community Church. I had been shooting from the back side of St. Michael's Steeple and kept alternating between wide and tighter views of Abbot Hall. As the sky reached its peak of pink color, I couldn't help but zoom out to capture the full extent of color in the morning sky as well as the rooftops interspersed with trees in this part of downtown Marblehead.

Pink Sky and the Hint of Moonrise

October's Hunters Moon came up during a surprisingly nice sunset and, between the two phenomena, I was like a kid in a candy store from my perch at Crocker Park. It was only fitting then that at the first hint of moonrise over Marblehead Neck, the sky turned cotton candy pink. I composed this image to include the boats in Marblehead harbor reflecting the last glow of sunlight and with Marblehead Light's green beacon signaling the sunset.
