The View from Leggs Hill

The alternative title for this post is 'what a difference a week makes'.  As you can see below, I shot nearly the same scene one week apart.  Above is sunset on October 27 - below is sunrise on October 20.  It's amazing how quickly fall colors can take hold and completely change a landscape. Technical: Canon 50D and EF-S 10-22 lens.  6 exposure bracket

Fall at Star of the Sea

I drive by the Star of the Sea cemetery every morning on the way to work and have been waiting for the trees to show their Fall colors.  Last Wednesday at sunrise seemed to be the 'peak' of their foliage (though with a fair number of fallen leaves as is the norm for this Fall).  I chose this beautiful statue for my foreground and lead the viewer to explore the rest of the cemetery.

Sunburst at Redd’s Pond

Got up early on Columbus Day in anticipation of another drive up to VT or NH to catch some foliage.  I had driven up to both in the past week and had been disappointed in the leaves this year (most are already on the ground).  Instead, I decided to head out to our local ponds.  First stop was Redds and the sun was climbing at just the right angle in the sky for a sunburst/sun star peeking through the leaves.  Just a hint of foliage to enjoy as well.  I was too excited to wait til Wednesday to post this [...]

Iron Bars – Preston Beach

There is an old storm drain that opens up at Preston Beach.  The pipe has corroded with time and, on the other side, stands an iron grate.  Over the years, it has accumulated tiny stones of many colors that serve to accentuate the rust, mossy greens and large rocks all around.  This scene changes rapidly with the tides - I happened upon it at just the right moment. Technical: Canon 50D with EF-S 10-22 lens.  6 exposure bracket.

Engine 2

The goal for this particular morning was to catch some of Earle's high surf.  Headed out at high tide but found the waves to be quite calm.  On the way home, I noticed that the light on our smaller engine house was just about perfect.  Knocked on the door and the firefighters were great about opening up the door and showing off their truck. Technical: Canon 50D with EF-S 17-55mm.  5 bracket HDR.

The Marshland Sunrise

This is one of three entrances into the town of Marblehead.  I featured another in an earlier post and thought it fitting to follow up with this view.  This small bit of marsh land separates Salem from our town.  It is especially beautiful in the Summer as the grass reaches its peak and I made a note to try for a sunrise shot here.  This morning worked out well with clear sky and very calm conditions. Technical: Canon 50D and EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS.  6 bracket HDR by 1EV brackets.

Foggy Morning over Salem Harbor

So technically this is just on the outskirts of Marblehead as you cross into Salem. I had been meaning to capture this area for a while but could never get all the elements in place…until today. Nice subdued light, bit of fog off the water and little to no wind to ruin the reflections. Technical: Canon 50D and 70-200 f/4 IS. 5 bracket HDR by 1 exposure steps

Fireworks

I figured I would start off the blog with a bang (pardon the pun)!  The goal of this blog is to capture the beauty of the town of Marblehead, MA.  A new image will be posted every Wednesday so please follow me on Twitter or add the RSS feed for this page. Shot from Chandler Hovey park on July 4th, 2010. Technical: Canon 50D with EF-S 10-22mm lens.  3 exposure HDR.
