The Island in the Harbor

On Friday, October 21st, I drove past this island which sits on the border between Salem and Marblehead in the harbor and noted that it had seemed to reach peak color for the Fall. A Purple Sky over Old Burial Hill

June 20th turned out to be an incredible productive day. It started on Beacon Street shooting the 'Marblehead or the Real World' sign and then progressed to a sunset shot of Gerry Island. On my way home, I somehow found myself at the base of Old Burial Hill and figured I would wander up as the light faded in the sky. A Fiery Sunset on Surf Street

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the Warwick Theater Foundation's Auction night to raise money for a new movie theater in town. Sun Rays over Devereux Beach

We had an amazing final warm Summer day on Wednesday, Sept 14th so I ventured to Devereux beach with my wife and two kids. I captured images of my kids enjoying the sand and water and then saw an incredible scene developing to the south. I walked down to remove other beach-goers from the view and managed to get the incoming surf and amazing sun rays that erupted over the Goldthwait reservation and surrounding houses.

The Pier on Edgemere Road

Expanding on yesterday's post about seeing out new places at the right time, I ventured down Edgemere Road to explore the private beach at sunset. I had visited this spot once before but did so at low tide which did not lend itself to properly capturing this scene. I returned on a cloudless sunset and viewed the serene scene before me. I opted to shoot toward a nearby pier and was pleased to find a waiting boat illuminated by the light of the setting sun.

The Rock at Stramski’s Beach

I made a list a few weeks ago to review areas in town that I had not yet shot or had wanted to shoot under different conditions. On that list was sunset at Stramski's beach. I had a chance to visit this area on Friday and was disappointed at first by the cloudless sky. I tried shooting toward the setting sun but couldn't find an angle I liked. Sunset over Gerry Island

The theme this week has been sunrises and sunsets and I therefore chose this photo which fit in nicely. It's another from the archive and was taken on July 4th while awaiting the fireworks display. A storm came through right before the fireworks were due to start and missed us but provided for a very intense sunset. Kayakers out for an Evening Row

Yesterday's post featured a close up of the houses on Cliff Street at sunset. As I composed that shot, two kayakers started out from Riverhead beach and made their way to the waters in the foreground. They then took a few minutes rest and I promptly recomposed my shot to include them in the frame. I liked the sense of scale they offer to the image as well as the slight change in perspective. I really need to rent a kayak and try this myself next Summer.

The Sun Sets on Cliff Street

In early Summer, I began exploring the area around the causeway. I spent the day walking along the causeway and back on the rocks below trying to find interesting compositions. I noticed that Abbot hall kept peaking through at various points and noted some of my favorites. One night in early June, the sunset seemed to hold promise and I drove out to the causeway. Ready for a Round of Golf at the Tedesco Country Club

On Fridays, I try to focus on a local business and the Tedesco Country Club may be the newest oldest one that I have photographed to date. Incorporated over one hundred years ago, the main house recently completed construction. I drove out here this past Wednesday wondering if the interplay of clouds would make for an interesting sunset.
