This is Children’s Island

There was so much to explore on Children's Island during the Fall Festival in October. When all was said and done, we boarded the Hannah Glover for the return trip and the photographer in me was jumping up and down at seeing these clouds develop. They provided for a very dramatic mood looking back toward the island and, even more so, as we returned to the mainland. Marblehead Rowing Club

Today's planned Halloween-themed entry will be postponed due to snow. In its place, here is a warm picture to help you forget about those early flakes on the ground in October of all times! The Marblehead Rowing Club has a great mission statement: A community based rowing club located on the North shore of Massachusetts whose members share a love for salt water recreational rowing and the spirit of friendship between each other. Dawn over Preston Beach

I had another gravestone from Old Burial Hill planned for today's post but yesterday's sunrise and possible UFO sighting pre-empted it. This is the shot I was taking and during which I captured a possible UFO flying over the ocean. A Fiery Sunset on Surf Street

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the Warwick Theater Foundation's Auction night to raise money for a new movie theater in town. The Rock at Midnight

This is my favorite image taken on a mid-August night shortly after midnight. After spending some time at Devereux beach, I headed across the causeway to Castle Rock. I tried to capture the waves below and the stars above and was very pleased with this result when I loaded it on the computer at home. This is a seven minute exposure and, in that time, you can see the effects on the waves turning the churning water to mist. Washing Ashore at Devereux Beach

I went to Devereux beach to explore the Rotary Great Race last weekend and, between activities, explored the beach. It was a beautiful end-of-Summer day and the ocean surf and color almost seemed like the Caribbean. I bent down and tried to angle the incoming surf to serve as a line leading out toward the Neck. The one rock in the foreground was just about to be engulfed by water and I liked this image which captured a bit of that tension leading up to the impending rush of water.

Sun Rays over Devereux Beach

We had an amazing final warm Summer day on Wednesday, Sept 14th so I ventured to Devereux beach with my wife and two kids. I captured images of my kids enjoying the sand and water and then saw an incredible scene developing to the south. I walked down to remove other beach-goers from the view and managed to get the incoming surf and amazing sun rays that erupted over the Goldthwait reservation and surrounding houses.

The Pier on Edgemere Road

Expanding on yesterday's post about seeing out new places at the right time, I ventured down Edgemere Road to explore the private beach at sunset. I had visited this spot once before but did so at low tide which did not lend itself to properly capturing this scene. I returned on a cloudless sunset and viewed the serene scene before me. I opted to shoot toward a nearby pier and was pleased to find a waiting boat illuminated by the light of the setting sun.

Sunset over Gerry Island

The theme this week has been sunrises and sunsets and I therefore chose this photo which fit in nicely. It's another from the archive and was taken on July 4th while awaiting the fireworks display. A storm came through right before the fireworks were due to start and missed us but provided for a very intense sunset. The best view ended up being this one looking out from Fort Sewall at Gerry Island. This was taken as a 4 shot panorama. Crowninshield Road from Crowninshield Island

At the end of Crowninshield Road lies a beautiful house seemingly perched on the edge of the ocean. As I continued to explore Crowninshield Island, I looked back and noticed this view of the house and the rocks of the island in the foreground. I liked the balance it gave to the image and the perspective of Marblehead's coast.
